Owner's Comments - My name is Brice Sokolowski. This is my 1963 Pontiac Catalina. It was originally purchased at R.O. Evans - Pontiac, Garland, TX. I live in Plano, TX. The car has been owned and garaged by 3 owners within 15 miles of Garland since purchased new. I am the 4th owner. Car is all originally except for the new exhaust system with Flowmaster and the tach inside. Original paint job that I restored by using a polishing compound. Before I owned the car, it was covered in rust spots and leaf stains. The power plant is a Pontiac "small block" 389 cubic inch engine: the basic Pontiac V8 from 1955 to 1970. 2 barrel Rochester carburetor: 283 horsepower @ 4,400RPM; 418 f-p of of torque @ 2,800 RPM. The transmission is a Hydra-matic 3 speed Original Super Deluxe AM radio. American classic "drive-in movie" 4-door sedan. 4,100 pounds of Pontiac EXCITEMENT! The license plate respectively reads: "63 CAT"

Owner's Comments -

Owned a 63 Catalina like this when I was a teenager.  Friend (ex) crashed it.  40 years later found this one at a Classic Swap Meet.  It was in need of paint and chrome & $$$.  It was in someone's backyard for 29 years and had only 31000 original miles on it.  Engine worked on, new brakes, new stainless steel dual exhaust system with 36" glasspaks, new carpeting, headliner and minor upholstery repair.  Paint stripped to bare metal and repainted Factory blue color.  Gets lots of looks and comments.  Having a ball with this car!        Terry

Stay Tuned ! - This car is being painted - P0000896.jpg (100101 bytes)  P0000901.jpg (68289 bytes)
Owner's Comments - When I purchased it, it had a 350 cu in smog motor with the 6 cylinder powerglide.  First race on May 17, 1997 the ET was
17.273 - 72.12 MPH.  The car weighed 3,855# with me in it  By October 1998 with the addition of a slightly worked turbo 350
with a 2,500 RPM stall speed, new Edelbrock carburetor,  MSD  ignition, 456 gears, and headers and some tweaking we got the car  down to 13.87 95.56 MPH.   It then weighed 3370# with me in it.  It now is a drag car with a full rectangular tube frame, chassis works ford 9" rear end, with a 355 cu in cement filled block.  The
transmission is a worked 350 with a 5,000 RPM stall speed.  Best ET so far 11.16 - 118.69 MPH.  It weighs 3240#..
I have not raced it yet this year but over the winter, we removed the stock front bumper and brackets and added a carbon fiber one with aluminum brackets.  As well, I removed all the glass, front, rear, sides and vents and replaced them with lexan.  At the same time I removed all the window regulators and vent window frames.  I
added a bit of weight with the addition of a 2nd battery in the rear.  As well I am having a little upholstery work done that may add a few pounds.  I changed the interior to aqua and had an excellent
aqua bench seat from another car.  It is possible the car now may weigh around 3,100# with me in it.
Added Aug 24, 2000 - ...I guess the extra battery installation and the interior weighed more than I thought. The car still weighs 3.240# with me in it. The good news is that by tinkering with the jets, with the help of my friend Mike 500 miles away, I improved my best ET to 11.054 and my miles per hour to 119.35..
.Added September 22, 2000 again, thanks to some long distance tuning from my long time friend Mike, our best time is now 10.902 - 121.40 MPH. We had removed the bottom headlights and vented 5" tubing into the engine department but had not connected those vents directly to the carburetor. We had installed an original SD hood scoop and figured since it was so small it may not be doing much. At the same time we felt with the scoop and the venting to the engine compartment, we were making lots of fresh air "available". There was not much clearance between the top of the carburetor and the hood, or at least where the hood metal was before we installed the scoop so we had to fashion a dual snout air cleaner (minus filer), with a drop down base and hooked up 5" tubing to the air cleaner. At the same time, we raised the back of the hood, hoping to let some of the hot engine compartment air escape. Those minor changes took us from 11.053 - 118.32 down to 10.902 - 121.40. Please keep in mind, mine is a Canadian Pontiac and they have Chevrolet motors, but thumbing through some magazines with pictures of the 63s' it is quite apparent the racers of those days were experimenting with all sorts of ways to get more fresh air to their engines.

All about this car is stock.  It has 36,400 miles and counting.  It is driven daily except in bad weather (snow, hail etc.)  It has many little details to fix, etc, but its rare appearance turns heads everywhere.  The best part is when a repair shop looks under it for the first time and the mechanic comes out from under it and says " What the hell kind of car are you driving?  I've never seen a drive train like this"

Owner's Comments - My 1963 Catalina originally had a  421 HO, 370 HP tri-power with a HD Borg-Warner T-10 4-speed transmission. It has HD police brakes and HD radiator. It is equipped with a3.64:1 Safe-T-Track and a Richmond Super T-10 transmission.  It has  the original 421 HO engine  block,  however, the 421 crank has be replaced with a 455 crank and standard 455 pistons. The HD brakes consist of the large aluminum drums and the HD rear drums and 15" police wheels. It has never had a radio and the car was body-off restored to the original condition using Sikkens Marimba Red acrylic enamel which was the original color, data plate code LL.

It has no radio and no power options. The original HD 4-speed transmission broke years ago and a Richmond Super T-10 with a 2.64:1 low has been installed in it's place behind a McLeod 11" flywheel and Ram 2350 lb. Borg and Beck pressure plate. It is equipped with the original Transistor
Ignition and Charging System.

Owner's Comments - The car was assembled on 5/22/63 and shipped from the factory to it's first owner in West Virginia. The second owner lived in Tennessee and relocated to Michigan where he did a large portion of the restoration through the 1980's and '90's. This was inclusive of paint, new top, new seats and carpet, found an original radio, the radiator was redone and I know the frame was welded. As he recently passed away, the car was sold to me through a broker. I've had to do very little to the car other than minor maintenance as the car seems to have been sitting for a few years. With 147,000 miles, the car is very roadworthy and handles and runs great (other than a overheating problem I hope to have corrected with a 160 degree thermostat and fresh coolant). I've been able to secure manuals for this model on the internet and would be happy to share this information if anyone is in need of it (via fax, email, etc.). I've also been able to find promotional items such as advertisements and sales brochures on ebay. I've noticed stuff for many different models there. Feel free to contact me at my email address.

Owner's Comments - I just bought this car last summer, after selling my Starlight Black 1969 Judge (yes, it was a  real Judge and yes, that was the original color!!).  I found the car out west.  It was manufactured in California, and lived most of its life there.  It has been restored by a previous owner (I finally wised up and bought one completed, although I guess none of them ever really are complete...), but was obviously very solid prior to the restoration.  The car is a PHS documented # matching 421 HO 4 speed, and is loads of  fun to drive!!
